Overview
Graduate construction professionals need to be able to measure, estimate and control large construction and building works. This course seeks to develop the skills to effectively procure and control construction projects. Students of this course will be assumed to have a basic understanding and proficiency with contract law, construction management and mathematics.
Course learning outcomes
The course objectives define the student learning outcomes for a course. On completion of this course, students should be able to:
- outline the roles of construction estimates and tendering procedures in project outcomes in the construction industry;
- use common measurement and estimating procedures to estimate building and construction works, including preliminary works, overheads, and profits;
- evaluate decision to tender, source prices, evaluate quotations and tenders submitted by subcontractors and contractors;
- prepare tender documents for construction and building projects;
- design and implement contract administration systems for construction and building projects particularly from a commercial perspective;
- outline various project delivery systems used in the construction industry;
- outline the approaches which may be used in the management of complex construction and building projects;
- prepare, to a professional standard, technical reports in English having good structure and format, high standards of spelling, grammar and punctuation, and appropriate and adequate technical content.
