Overview
This course prepares you to teach within your specific Technologies discipline through an exploration of how Technologies content, pedagogy and curriculum fit and work together to provide effective learning opportunities. You will be introduced to specific knowledge and pedagogical understanding within your particular Technologies discipline, aimed at moving you beyond generic approaches of teaching to a deeper understanding of learning and teaching within the Technologies area.
You will consider a range of pedagogical approaches, encompassing approaches common to clusters of disciplines as well as those distinctive to your specific Technologies discipline. The course will support you in developing a strong professional knowledge of discipline-specific curriculum and pedagogy within your chosen Technologies teaching areas, allowing you to actively construct your discipline-specific Technologies' pedagogical practice and professional expertise.
Course learning outcomes
On completion of this course students should be able to:
- demonstrate the ability to select, use and create appropriate resources, skills, attitudes, values, signature pedagogies, literacy and numeracy teaching strategies in chosen discipline鈥檚 Technologies curriculum;
- explain and use student-centred learning approaches (problem and project-based, collaborative learning) and the advantages and disadvantages for supporting students learning in Technologies;
- apply Indigenous perspectives, differentiation, and inclusive practices in Technologies teaching strategies to meet the specific learning needs of students across the full range of abilities in the design and technology area;
- demonstrate an understanding of providing feedback, assessment and reporting on student achievement and apply well-developed judgement to student work in Technologies disciplines;
- demonstrate broad knowledge and understanding of maintaining behaviour management, student safety, code of conduct and compliance with legislative requirements in a range of contexts relevant for Technologies.
