Pre-requisite: Students must be enrolled in Program: BAHN or BCAH. This course can only be taken after achieving a grade of IIP in HMT4001.
Overview
This honours course assists students to complete an investigation relevant to their discipline and compose the results in a dissertation or written exegesis according to the standards of their discipline. It is designed to prepare students for research higher degree study.
This two unit course enables students enrolled in the Honours programme to complete their dissertation under supervision. This course is a continuation of the work commenced in HMT4001 Honours Dissertation A. The dissertation shall be (i) 12,000-15,000 words for a fully written dissertation (Module 1); OR (ii) a professional body of work and a written exegesis of 5,000-8,000 words (Module 2 - especially suited to BCAH students); OR (iii) creative writing (10,000 words) and a written exegesis (5,000 words) for creative and critical writing students.
Course learning outcomes
On successful completion of this course, students should be able to:
- research and report autonomously in written form on a sustained topic in the relevant disciplinary field;
- devise, develop and sustain lengthy but sound argument;
- print, edit and present in publishable form a completed dissertation ready for submission to the dissertation examiners.
