Overview
In the 20th century, the recording emerged as an important representation of contemporary music production, challenging the score as key text. Creative artists working in the contemporary music industry need to develop and display analytical skills and advanced practice in the arranging and recording of contemporary music.
With a focus on key texts within recorded contemporary music since 1950, this course provides students with the analytical skills to develop an advanced practice in the arranging and production of contemporary music.
Course learning outcomes
On completion of this course students will be able to:
- apply advanced principles, techniques and concepts of musical analysis to the theories and practices of musical production and arranging;
- show further developed aural skills, including the ability to research, observe and analyse music in a variety of recorded contexts;
- interpret and explore the languages, forms, materials, technologies and techniques in the arrangement and production of contemporary music.
