Overview
Professionals in Agricultural Technology and related disciplines are required to operate safely and effectively within a range of agricultural production environments Agricultural environments pose a range of hazards including plant, chemicals, working with animals and remote locations. The agricultural industry has the highest fatality rate of any Australian industry. This course, with its sister course AGR1104 – Farm Safety and Operations 1, delivers a range of practical competencies to prepare students for safely operating within these environments.
In this course, students will be assessed against a range of competencies related to safe and effective operations within agricultural production environments including the safe operation of quad bikes and side by sides, safe and appropriate handling of animals and use of multi-rotor remote pilot aircraft systems. A combination of theoretical concepts and hands on training will be provided to develop these workplace competencies.
This course contains a mandatory residential school for external students and mandatory on-campus laboratories or practical classes for on-campus students. The mandatory activities in this course requires students to work with animals and in outdoor environments. For their protection, students must be immunised for, and be able to provide proof of vaccination or immunity, for Tetanus and Q-Fever.
