Overview

Healthcare professionals in specialist and/or advanced practice positions are integral to the quality leadership and management of health care and health care facilities. It is important that they have knowledge of the leadership and management strategies and techniques needed to achieve effective healthcare outcomes.

This Masters level course provides healthcare professionals with the opportunity to reflect on the leadership and management aspects of their role and apply theoretical knowledge to the realities of leadership and management practice in health care.

Course learning outcomes

On successful completion of this course students should be able to:

  1. demonstrate academic and professional literacy skills by critically examining leadership, management and organisational theories and identifying how these may be adapted and applied in healthcare practice
  2. critically evaluate management policies and practices and recommend areas for improvement and change within their organisation in the areas of resource management, provision of healthcare services, and change management
  3. Develop their own style of leadership and management relevant to their area of healthcare practice
  4. Demonstrate competence in and appropriate use of language and literacy, including spelling, grammar, punctuation and bibliographic referencing.
