This course offers students the ability to acquire advanced understanding of the process of exegesis writing and to be engaged in creative arts practice-led research. This course offers creative arts researchers the opportunity to investigate their own original contribution within an exegesis context that is aligned to professional arts practice at the highest level.

The course offers critical approaches to writing an exegesis for creative arts practitioners. This is a high-level base course that will provide students the research grounding and skills to best position their practice within a research context. Students will be offered the opportunity to investigate and gain greater awareness of the different approaches to the exegesis form, style and content within their specific creative arts field or hybrid arts- practice research. Given this knowledge, students will be highly self-directed, while working closely with their supervisor in their strategic approach to their exegesis design and approach to practice-led research.

On successful completion of this course students should be able to demonstrate:

1. application of advanced knowledge in practice-led research and the production of an exegesis to develop an original contribution within the creative arts field
2. expertise in critical evaluation, analysis and reflection regarding the approach, design and content of the exegesis in relation to creative arts practice
3. demonstrate knowledge of professional creative arts research in light of the diverse range of exegesis approaching reflecting professional standards
4. a high level of research competence, effective communication skills and intellectual independence in navigating historical, theoretical, cultural and ethical contexts within the creative arts exegesis and practice.
