Overview
As societies and communities transform and become even more interconnected through digital communication technology, we have greater capacity to act globally and mediate change for the better. More recently, the term ‘glocal’ is being used to describe how we might respond in ways that reflect both local and global considerations.
This course examines the concept of solving `wicked problems' that impact on societies and communities, with academic credibility through multidisciplinary approaches. Through a variety of authentic case studies and global scenarios, you will develop transferable skills and knowledge in multidisciplinary learning, collaborative problem solving and applied research. You will be required to collaborate in teams, bringing together diverse perspectives to design solutions to an authentic disruptive scenario.
Course learning outcomes
On completion of this course students should be able to:
- identify and describe a wicked problem including its scope and potential impacts;
- reflect on key skills of respecting difference, personal insight and collaborative problem solving;
- in multidisciplinary teams, design an approach to a local or global wicked problems;
- present a scenario that demonstrates a knowledge of the interconnections between disciplines.
