Overview
Professionals from all disciplines need to be knowledgeable and critical consumers of research and have a sound understanding of the research design process. This course provides students with the knowledge and guidance to develop a research proposal to conduct a research project that is inclusive of ethical requirements within their field.
With guidance from a member of academic staff as supervisor, students will plan and design an independent research or scholarly project which relates to their overall program of study.
Course learning outcomes
On successful completion of this course students should be able to:
- Design and plan an independent research or other scholarly project focused on a topic of significance in the student's field of study;
- Identify and discuss the ethical standards as outlined in the Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research (2018) and associated guides.

Student workload expectations
To do well in this subject, students are expected to commit approximately 10 hours per week including class contact hours, independent study, and all assessment tasks. If you are undertaking additional activities, which may include placements and residential schools, the weekly workload hours may vary.
