Overview
This course will enable the student to consolidate midwifery evidence-based practice to ensure high standards of professional practice. The course will explore and debate contemporary midwifery practice issues and topics to prepare students for autonomous practice in numerous maternity settings and/or models of care.
This course addresses content specific to professional issues aligned with international, national, regional and remote practice. The course will provide students with an awareness of relevant midwifery practice and content surrounding ongoing professional development, Medicare eligibility and sustaining midwifery practice. Finally, higher level practice skills will be introduced and examined to facilitate autonomous midwifery practice.
Course learning outcomes
On completion of this course, students should be able to:
- Demonstrate professional conduct including using effective communication skills and evidence-based philosophy to maintain collaborative and supportive relationships with women, their families and health professionals in a culturally appropriate manner;
- Demonstrate an understanding of ensuring evidence based practice;
- Explore and examine the skills and business management strategies to sustain midwifery practice and the impact of the ongoing professional development;
- Demonstrate an understanding of the need for in depth knowledge of pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamics to facilitate midwifery practice;
- Demonstrate an understanding of women鈥檚 health issues;
- Demonstrate knowledge and skills associated with advanced midwifery practice.
