Overview
This course is one of two visual art studio capstone courses aimed at industry preparedness. The aim of these capstone courses is to facilitate the integration of advanced learned knowledge and the industry standard for employability and project outcomes. Students will gain experience in a range of professional concepts, techniques and skills in order to critically apply and professionally engage with arts industry. Students should achieve an advanced level of understanding and competency in project management and other professional practices required for their career or Honours/Postgraduate study. It is essential for industry readiness or entry into Honours level study, that students be self-directed in their use of dynamic concept and project development, of evaluation, re-evaluation, and adjustment. At this level, students should demonstrate the ability to seek and apply regular and independent self-reflective and external critical evaluation to assess to works in process, and to independently plan and form quality outcomes that have the potential to generate another iteration of development, presentation and industry potential.
In this course, students will further develop self-directed project design and execution skills, which are complementary to those gained in VAP3100. Students should demonstrate in-depth knowledge, advanced research skills and technical abilities and utilise these to realise a professional quality self-directed project. All stages of the project development will be carried out under supervision from the studio lecturers, who will conduct individual and group consults, and provide ongoing critiques and feedback. This is an advanced course that should equip students to enter into Honours level studies, or employment in professional arts industries. Students will be introduced to the various career pathways within professional arts industries. These include: practicing artist, curator, gallery administrator, art education officer, art teacher, art writer and more. This enables the student to cater their learning to individual career aspirations.
Students expecting to graduate on the completion of this course will have the opportunity to exhibit their work in the visual arts graduate exhibition. To do so, students must meet appropriate deadlines and requirements regarding the planning of, participation in and installation of the exhibition.
Students will learn professional concepts, techniques and skills in order to critically apply and professionally engage with their art practice.
On campus students will be required to undertake relevant WH&S inductions and employ the safe handling of materials, processes and equipment.
