Overview

The aviation industry is a highly dynamic, global and complex socio-technical system. Individuals intending to enter a supervisory or management role within the aviation industry need to have a broad understanding of the aviation system in general, including international bodies, regulatory agencies, and the complex facets of individual airlines, airports and other ancillary agencies. Within each of these organisations, outcomes and standards are managed by supervisors with an advanced level of systemic knowledge, analytical problem solving skills, communication skills and decision making skills. They also need to be effective leaders and to have in depth knowledge of organisational behavioural processes such as change management and management of organisational culture. This course aims to address management skills and knowledge which is specifically aviation focused.

Students will be introduced to contemporary aviation systems with an emphasis on macro-economics in a global market. They will develop a broad understanding of the aviation system in general, including international bodies, regulatory agencies, and the complex facets of individual airlines, airports and other ancillary agencies. Individuals will also develop analytical problem solving, communication and decision making skills. They will learn the skills of effective leaders and gain in depth knowledge of organisational behavioural processes such as change management and management of organisational culture. Individual and group assignments are used to achieve these aims.
