Overview
There are two key digital technologies issues that graduates require to be effective teachers in the 21 century. The first is their ability to position digital technology devices and systems within their teaching capability. This enables teachers to leverage the emerging technologies for improving student learning outcomes when such digital devices and systems that are available. The second is that our graduates need to have an understanding of the digital technologies curriculum and the implications for the teaching and learning of this curriculum area. This course builds the students’ knowledge of both aspects with an emphasis on developing graduates’ knowledge of the digital technologies curriculum. The course positions the use of digital technologies and ICT capabilities as a support for the delivery of the digital technologies curriculum in general.
The aim of this course is to prepare graduates to implement digital technologies across the Curriculum. Pre-service educators in this course will develop an understanding of the use of digital technologies as a general capability across early childhood, primary and secondary contexts by emphasising its application in curriculum and pedagogy. This course will focus on building understanding of the relevant curriculum documents, including the Australian Curriculum and the Early Years Learning Framework with pre-service educators understanding how to embed Cross-Curriculum Priorities and General Capabilities, or how to integrate them into their teaching and learning practices.
