Overview
The Australian Curriculum: English consists of the three interrelated stands of Language, Literature and Literacy. Teachers of language need to have an understanding of grammar. Teachers of literature need to have an understanding of the historical, social and cultural perspective of literary traditions. Teachers of literacy need to understand learners bring different prior knowledge, including their cultural and social backgrounds and prior literacy experiences to their learning at schools.
This course will explore the Australian Curriculum: English strands of Language, Literature and Literacy. The course will examine how literature can be used to enrich the educational experience of learners. Students will explore how cultural and social backgrounds and prior literacy experiences can influence learning. Strategies for introducing learners to many literary genres and formats will be investigated. Opportunities to identify literary devices, language and image resources used in literature to represent meaning will be provided.
