Overview
The organisation of health care at any level has its origins in the historical, political, economic and socio-cultural influences that shape the development and implementation of health policies. It is important that health care managers, educators and senior clinicians understand and are able to respond in an informed manner to the shifts and changes in health policy and the application of recommendations into practice that impact on the delivery of health care at any level within their community.
This post graduate course focuses on health policy from the perspectives of history, development, critical analysis, application and review. It will enable the student to explain how health policies are developed and how they impact on both the delivery and the receipt of health care. Students will be guided in how to conduct a critical evaluation and review of a health policy utilising a Policy Analysis Framework and the application in practice of recommendations through local procedures, guidelines or implementation strategies. Using this analysis, students will then develop recommendations to improve the structure and application of the policy to health care outcomes.
