Overview
Students entering tertiary education require an opportunity to master, practise and refine mathematical skills as prerequisites for successful study. This course will provide students with basic mathematical competencies for tertiary studies in Bachelor of Construction, Bachelor of Science (Environment and Sustainability), Bachelor of Science (Physical Sciences), Bachelor of Health, Associate Degree of Construction, Associate Degree of Engineering and Associate Degree of Spatial Science. It also provides foundational material for further studies in the pre-tertiary courses in mathematics.
Using concepts of self-paced instruction and adult learning the course guides students through a carefully sequenced series of topics that provide the foundation for mathematics encountered in tertiary studies and further pre-tertiary studies in mathematics. More specifically, students are introduced to the mathematical concept of function in a number of contexts. The self-paced structure of the course allows students to work at their own pace within a specified framework, thus developing their confidence with mathematics, mathematical communication and general problem solving skills.
