Overview
This intermediate course offers the opportunity for students to continue developing their contemporary art practice and research. Students are encouraged to expand their knowledge of technical, conceptual, practical and observational skills related to their selected 2D and 3D studio practice areas. This intermediate level course aims to inform students about concepts, techniques and skills needed to critically operate as a practicing visual artist. Through independent and/or collaborative learning, this course will identify the professional issues associated with art and research practices, including interdisciplinary and/or hybrid works alongside self-reflective practices.
This course builds on the knowledge and skills gained in VIS1010 and VIS1020, and is integral and complementary to the understanding of VIS2020.
Building on the knowledge and technical skills gained in the pre-requisite courses, students will focus on key areas of interest and expand their application of technical, analytical and research skills within their selected studio areas. This course will transition students into an intermediate level of practice, related to both technique and concept development. This will be supported through lectures, workshops tutorials, critiques and consultations. Students will increase their insight and reflection into their own practices, and position these in relation to the works of professional contemporary artists.
On campus students will be required to undertake relevant WH&S inductions and employ the safe handling of materials, processes and equipment.
