Course fee schedule : /current-students/administration/fees/fee-schedules

Overview

The utility and benefits of Unmanned Aircraft Vehicles (UAVs) are emerging and being recognized across the aviation industry. UAVs are transforming our way of thinking about flight operations and services that can be provided by them. While this technology is not new, the ability to support domestic public and private operators is becoming better understood and opening up new uses to government organizations and commercial enterprise. Analysis of the unmanned aviation market indicates that small UAVs will become the most prevalent and affordable form of unmanned aircraft available, featuring technology developed by contributors from model aircraft communities to defence contracting. However, the adoption of UAV-related services poses many challenges for the current air transport system. Future air transport professionals will need to have an acute awareness of UAV operations including typical UAV architecture, related technology, common uses, safety practices, while developing a broad understanding of the complex legal, business, operational and support considerations. This course aims to provide you with an appreciation of how these elements fit together while developing your own strategy for the safe, efficient and effective use of this revolution in air transportation.

You will develop a sound understanding of UAV operations including: the history of UAVs; applications of small UAVs; design variations; legal, environmental and operational considerations; business of unmanned aviation; and future challenges for UAV operations. By considering real-world case studies, current research and contemporary trade practices, the course will provide you with the opportunity to develop analysis and problem-solving skills focused on the impact that this paradigm shift in air transport services has on the current air transport environment.
