Overview
In Semester 3, 2023 this course will be delivered as a Transition (9 week) semester, commencing on 13 November 2023 and concluding on 12 January 2024.
In a world that is moving into the 鈥榝ourth industrial revolution鈥 where the focus is on automation, machine learning and AI, virtualised commerce and the 鈥榠nternet of things鈥, it is all too easy to overlook the importance of human capabilities in organisations. As we embrace the technological leaps and opportunities that 鈥淚ndustry 4.0鈥 offers, it remains critical that we also build our skills as reflective sense-makers, innovators, collaborators, and creative problem solvers modern organisations need. Enterprise skills and personal capabilities such as teamwork, emotional intelligence, communication and conflict resolution, adaptive and creative intelligence, and complex problem solving are still positive indicators of organisational success. Whether a CEO, accountant, teacher, nurse, astrophysicist, engineer, or farmer, we all work with others and within organisations. We all balance competing agendas and must manage finite resources, making the best decisions we can and moving forward as a team. Our personal capabilities cross cultural, geographic, and industry boundaries and connect us in pursuit of our goals.
This course will discuss the personal human capabilities that drive organisations forward. Concepts covered will include emotional intelligence, ethical business practices, collaboration in teams, communication and conflict resolution, problem-solving, systems thinking, creativity, and developing a professional identity. We will work through these topics at an introductory level, and they will then be embedded and built upon throughout your program of study. We will work in groups and teams to identify solutions for real-world organisational issues. Finally, you will engage in reflective practice to initiate the development of a strong professional identity as a foundation entry in your student portfolio.
