Overview

This first-year foundation course introduces students to nursing theory and the fundamental concepts of providing basic patient-centred care across the lifespan. Learning centres on the importance of providing care that is safe, effective and evidence based. The knowledge and skills developed in this course will be built upon in other courses throughout the remainder of the program, which assists students to become employable and qualified Registered Nurses.

As per the BNSG Program Rules, students are required to attempt and submit all assessment items in a course.

This program rule forms part of the UniSQ accreditation agreement with the Australian Nursing & Midwifery Council (ANMAC).

In this course, students are introduced to beginning theory and clinical skills. Through a range of learning opportunities and activities including simulated nursing laboratories, students learn and practice the basic principles of: person centred care, infection prevention and control; holistic nursing assessments including vital signs;professional communication and documentation within normal parameters.

This course consists of a mandatory residential school for external students and mandatory laboratories for on-campus students. Laboratory and Residential School attendance is mandatory to pass the course.As per the BNSG Program Rules, students are required to meet all mandatory course requirements including - mandatory residential school or clinical laboratory requirements where this is present in courses.

As per the BNSG Program Rules, students are required to attempt and submit all assessment items in a course. Failure to comply with this program rule may result in an unsuccessful or incomplete grade. Furthermore, if you have not achieved a passing grade and have not completed all items of assessment (and did not obtain an approved extension), then it will be determined that you have not met the requirements to pass the course.
