Overview

Individuals have a right to effective, efficient and safe care. Contemporary healthcare practice requires the use of evidence to improve health outcomes for individuals, families, and populations. It is important for healthcare students to understand the relationship between the generation of research evidence and the delivery of safe and effective care based on evidence. Knowledge and skills in evidence-based practice (EBP) is therefore critical to practicing healthcare professionals.

This course builds on and provides knowledge regarding clinical inquiry, the principles of evidence-based practice, a framework for evidence-based practice and the skills to apply the evidence-based practice process in their everyday professional practice to deliver safe and effective care. Students are also introduced to common research methodology, designs and methods used in health to generate evidence, skills in conducting electronic database searches, and the ability to critically read, interpret, and synthesise the scholarly literature to formulate and articulate recommendations for practice.

As per the BNSG Program Rules, students are required to attempt and submit all assessment items in a course. This program rule forms part of the UniSQ accreditation agreement with the Australian Nursing & Midwifery Council [ANMAC].
