Overview
According to the World Health Organisation, public health refers to all organised measures (whether public or private) to prevent disease, promote health, and prolong life within populations. Content and activities presented in this course aims to inform students about maintaining health focusing on entire populations, as opposed to individuals and diseases. This Public Health course highlights promoting physical and mental health within communities which is a key priority among local, national and international agencies. This course is in line the Paramedicine Board of Australia鈥檚 requirement that includes paramedics promote health in communities and have an understanding of public health principles.
Public Health (PMC1101) will introduce concepts and data surrounding public health and provides students with an understanding of health outcomes and associated determinants within Australia and globally. Factors influencing health and disease within various population groups and communities, as well as health promotion principles will be explored and analysed throughout this course to prepare students for their role as future health professionals.
