Overview

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a common presentation and affects most adults beyond the age of 60 years. Cardiovascular conditions and emergencies contribute significantly to global morbidity and mortality and as such, Health Care Practitioners are required to possess a sound understanding of the cardiovascular disease process.

This course will develop students' ability to acquire and critically appraise evidence to apply the findings in healthcare practice. This course aims to equip students with the clinical reasoning, problem solving and clinical judgements skills to determine the most appropriate evidence-based treatment options to deliver safe and effective care.

The course utilises practice-based learning pedagogy with a focus on the epidemiology, pathophysiology, clinical manifestations, and therapeutic management of patients with cardiovascular conditions and emergencies. All learning opportunities, including online discussion, peer learning activities and assessments are designed to develop students' diagnostic and clinical reasoning skills to risk stratify patients safely and justify alternate treatment pathways if appropriate.
