Overview
This course assists students to apply their psychology knowledge and skills in either a Capstone Project or Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) experience to prepare for employment and/or further studies. To undertake the WIL Placement stream students must have completed PSY2105. To undertake the Capstone Project stream students must have completed 1st and 2nd year psychology courses or must be enrolled in the BSED. This course provides flexibility to cater for the widely varying interests and chosen specialisations of students. Students will experience how psychological theories and constructs are implemented in applied settings, thereby gaining valuable insights into psychology-related work environments and careers.
This course is a competency-based course, and to receive the pass mark, students must complete the 100 hours of the WIL placement/ capstone project and receive a satisfactory Placement/ Project Review.
This course offers two streams of project engagement from which students will choose ONE. The two streams are either: 1) Capstone Project, or 2) Work Integrated Learning (WIL).
The WIL Placement stream offers students the opportunity to critically apply and further develop the professional skills that they have acquired throughout the psychological skills courses. Specifically, Work Integrated Learning will consist of a community/industry/research placement of 100 hours duration. In addition to the placement, this stream also requires students to meet with the course examiner and complete a portfolio.
The Capstone Project stream provides the opportunity for a student to pursue 100 hours duration of supervised project that can consist of specialised investigations extending knowledge and skills in a certain area of psychology. The project may involve, for example, directed readings, extension of the project (where appropriate), or some other approved activity which would complement the student's studies in the program. In addition to the project engagement, students are required to meet with course examiner and complete a portfolio. Students enrolled in the Capstone Project stream will be provided with a list of available projects from which to choose.
