Overview
This is a clinical skills course for the Bachelor of Sport and Exercise (Honours) (Clinical Exercise Physiology). Physiological and functional movement-based assessment skills gained during the program will be extended to include clinical populations. The course will build upon knowledge and practical skills established in earlier courses, including SES2104 and SES2201, to develop clinical knowledge and skills. This course is aligned to professional accreditation standards set by the professional body, Exercise and Sports Science Australia, as standards for an accredited exercise physiologist.
This course provides an introduction to the role and responsibilities of the clinical exercise physiology profession within the Australian healthcare system. This course will help develop the practical skills required by students when working with clinical clients and populations so they can provide expert exercise assessment and testing, prescription of exercise interventions, and monitoring of client progression throughout prescribed exercise. The course requires interactive engagement for students to develop ability to self-analyse the rationale behind their clinical skills and clinical decision-making processes.
This course contains a mandatory residential school for external students and mandatory practical classes for on-campus students. To pass this course, students must attend 80% of the residential school or practical classes. Student non-compliance with the attendance requirement will mean the student cannot pass the course.
