Overview

This course introduces Master of Strength and Conditioning students to the fundamental principles of strength and conditioning for athletic populations. This course is designed to provide students with industry-relevant theoretical knowledge of key areas such as athlete profiling, testing and data interpretation, acute responses and adaptations to training, programming for athletic development and periodization concepts and paradigms. It also provides integrated-learning opportunities for practical skills development in in order help students understand how apply in the context of varied athletic populations.

This course examines fundamental principles underlying strength and conditioning for athletic populations addressing athlete profiling, testing and data interpretation, strength and conditioning program design, acute responses and adaptations to training, programming for athletic development and periodization concepts. Applicable knowledge and skills will assist students in the design of strength and conditioning programs based on current best practice. Current research pertaining to fundamental principles will be examined via a Problem-Based Learning approach supplemented with key learning extension activities, including online discussion, collaboration, and peer learning.
