Overview

This course introduces Master of Strength and Conditioning students to two fundamental areas of strength and conditioning for all athletic populations, athlete testing and monitoring. This course is designed to complement the fundamental skills learnt in the Scientific Principles of Strength and Conditioning course and provide students with industry relevant theoretical and practical skills across key topics related directly to athlete testing and monitoring. Specifically, the principles behind performance testing procedures and how to administer tests across all areas of strength and conditioning. The course also covers how to use the different types of athlete monitoring tools available across a spectrum of athletic population groups and how to interpret and present the data and results from these monitoring applications as well as the performance tests. Mastering these theoretical and practical skills will enable students to make programming decisions to help athletes achieve their performance goals.

This course examines the principles for performance testing procedures applicable to all tests and athletic populations including the safe and correct administration protocols for a range of performance tests for strength, power, flexibility, agility, speed, and endurance. The course also examines in detail the different types of athlete monitoring tools available and how they are applied across a spectrum of athletic population groups. In addition, the course explains how to interpret and present the scientific data and results from the sports testing and athlete monitoring applications in a usable and meaningful format for coach and athlete understanding. The knowledge and skills gained will enable students to select and conduct tests and then interpret and present their results with greater efficiency using information based on industry relevant standards. Learning in this subject is based on a Problem-Based Learning approach supplemented with key learning extension activities, including online discussion, collaboration, and peer learning.
