Overview

This course provides students with the opportunity to explore competing approaches to power in relation to injustice, exploitation, inequality, and social movements. You will examine how power can facilitate or limit people鈥檚 capacity to exploit opportunities for resisting or overcoming injustice.

Power is a central concept for Social Justice and other social sciences. In this course, you will examine competing theories of power from a Social Justice perspective. You will explore conventional concepts of power, particularly those based on coercion, dominance and control, and contrast these with competing conceptions of power based on co-operation and collaboration.
