Overview

Avid Media Composer as industry standard software heavily present in motion picture, major productions, documentaries, television programs and commercial production. This course introduces students to industry standard software, and Avid Pro-tools. During the course the student will be introduced to the video editing software Media Composer and to understand the use of pro-tools in a video environment.

Students will be taught the importance of effective media management and be shown the Avid infrastructure that links the media centre and reflects standard media production house workflow.

During this introductory course students should gain the key skills in the effective use of media composer by producing a range of finished products. This will include audio sound design, and compliments TVR1003. Having the knowledge of effectively editing with media composer will ensure that the student is well placed to work in a range of production facilities globally.

Students will be introduced to the theory and practical use of Avid Media Composer and Avid Pro-tools, as industry standard software tools. The video editing will be supported by considering the use of audio in this environment.

The student will learn key terminologies, concepts and be able to apply this is practical exercises.
The student will be introduced to the design of the media infrastructure employed in the media centre to build knowledge and foster skills in moving video files around the internal network.

The teaching sessions will be supported by guest lecturers and work placements/ site visits where possible.
