Program focus

This program meets the needs of beginning teachers in post-compulsory education and training environments, with an emphasis on senior secondary school teaching.

Career opportunities

This program provides a degree level qualification for those people who wish to pursue a full-time career in senior schooling, post-compulsory teaching and industry training. This program will enable certain graduates to seek teacher registration in Queensland (provided specific program and Queensland College of Teachers Guidelines are met). Students completing the Industrial Design and Technology specialisation will be able to apply for positions as Manual Arts and Technology Teachers in secondary schools.

Professional accreditation

This degree can be used to gain teacher registration with the Queensland College of Teachers . Graduates wishing to seek this registration must meet the following requirements:

  • be eligible to graduate as per the standard program structure*

  • successfully complete course EDU5111 , or an alternative Education Psychology course approved by the Program Coordinator

  • successfully complete their Professional Studies Electives (PSE) in education and training or areas directly related to education studies

  • successfully complete 110 days of approved, supervised instructional practice that must include group instruction with adolescent learners completing accredited programs. The instructional supervisor would need to have instructional qualifications and experience appropriate to teacher registration requirements

  • have their instructional practice observed by a nominated USQ staff member or approved proxy

  • meet all program and Queensland College of Teachers guidelines specific to teacher registration.
