Anthropology major
Anthropology (Honours) offers coursework in advanced anthropology
and research methods, as well as a dissertation on an area of particular
interest.
Communication and media studies major
The Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Communication offers theoretical
and philosophical foundations for study and research of mass communication
and contemporary media forms. You can choose from a variety of areas
for your dissertation topic, including cinema, television, press,
popular culture, radio, advertising and multimedia texts.
Career opportunities
Opportunities include research work in media and policy, further
higher degree work, and positions in media.
English literature major
English Literature (Honours) focuses on critical and cultural
theory, and classical literature and film. The program investigates
the nature and operation of cultural institutions and the cultural
production of meaning.
History major
History (Honours) offers coursework in research design and method
and history specialist topics, as well as a dissertation on an area
of particular personal interest.
Career opportunities
Most History Honours graduates are eligible for admission to
postgraduate studies, either at Masters or Doctoral level. Other career
options include teaching, journalism, publishing, public service,
archives and library work or community history.
International Relations Major
International Relations (Honours) offers coursework units in
Research Design and discipline-based subjects, as well as a dissertation
on an area of particular personal interest.
Career opportunities
Most International Relations (Honours) graduates are eligible
for admission to postgraduate studies either at Masters or Doctoral
level. Other career options include public service, teaching English
overseas and aid projects.
Program aims
The program aims to produce graduates who have an advanced awareness,
understanding and appreciation of the complexities of human thought,
expression and behaviour as reflected in a specified discipline area.
Graduates will also have demonstrated their capacity for specialised
study, research and scholarship at a higher level and/or in applying
knowledge in employment or community service, and have enhanced further
their personal, cultural, creative and intellectual capacities.
Program objectives
On successful completion of the program students should:

and theories pertaining to the arts or humanities

have acquired advanced knowledge, skills and competency in the
content, epistemology and appreciation or practice of a particular
discipline

level.
Admission requirements
Entry to the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) shall be by a Bachelor of Arts degree of the 精东传媒app of Southern Queensland
or other recognised bachelor's degree from a recognised university
with a pass at either a:

credit level (grade point average of 5.0/7 i.e. 71.4 per cent)
in the entire program and permission of the relevant Program Coordinator

a grade point average of 5/7 (71.4 per cent) across all levels
in the proposed Major 精东传媒app

a grade point average of 5.2/7 (75 per cent) in the third level
of the program (i.e. Major and Option), including an 'A' or better
level pass in at least one course of the Major

Program structure
The Bachelor of Arts (Honours) program consists of eight units
of study comprising four units of coursework, some of which are Core
for the various majors (see below for details), and four units of
supervised dissertation. The dissertation component must be completed
over two consecutive terms.
Required time limits
Students have a maximum of 2 years to complete this program.
Core courses
The Core courses are central to the achievement of the objectives
of the program and must be undertaken by all students enrolled in
the program. The Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in English Literature
and in Drama comprises two core courses and . These courses will provide a basic
understanding of the key ideas that have influenced the western cultural
tradition from ancient to post-modernist periods.
Major studies
A Major 精东传媒app is a compulsory group of courses having six units
in value within the program, and is designed to provide students with
(a) specialised knowledge in selected areas of a particular discipline
and (b) the opportunity to develop research and/or practical skills
in a particular discipline. The majors available are - Anthropology,
Communication and Media Studies, English Literature, History, and
International Relations.
