For Arts students

The program aims to produce diplomates who have:

• demonstrated competencies in communication skills necessary for further academic study in appropriate discipline areas

• acquired basic knowledge in one or more disciplines in a relevant degree program.

For students intending to transfer to other USQ programs

This program aims to:

• provide students with an introduction to university study by a free selection of courses from across the ¾«¶«´«Ã½app.

For Bachelor of Education (Primary) graduates:

This program aims to provide an employment pathway into Junior Secondary teaching in Queensland by gaining specialist discipline knowledge and experience.

Program objectives

Program objectives for Bachelor of Education (Primary) graduate pathway:

To produce diplomates who have:

• developed specialist knowledge, skills and competencies in two of the following discipline areas: English; Science; Mathematics; and History

• developed knowledge, understanding and experience of Junior Secondary curriculum and pedagogy.

Program objectives for all other graduates:

To produce diplomates who have:

• an awareness of the nature of study in the arts, humanities, and social sciences

• developed foundation knowledge, skills and competencies in at least one discipline area

• a fundamental ability to express thoughts with clarity and coherence in written and/or oral forms

• acquired sufficient knowledge to make informed choices about possible further study.

Commonwealth supported place

Program structure

The Diploma of Arts comprises eight units of study, generally requiring completion of eight courses, one of which is a core course. The remaining seven units of courses come from USQ course offerings. While students may choose any seven courses, it is recommended that study is chosen from three discipline areas unless students plan to complete seven units from a major study in a single discipline area. The Diploma of Arts may articulate into other USQ undergraduate degree programs. Students are advised to contact the relevant Faculty to discuss their course choices to ensure optimal articulation pathways. In particular, courses can be chosen from the following discipline areas.

Note: Nursing and Teaching Practice courses are not available.

Commencing students must complete or equivalent in their first semester of study. A credit for may be granted for students with a previous USQ undergraduate degree.

A Diploma of Arts, subject to selection of appropriate courses, articulates into most USQ programs. Students must keep in mind that normal entry requirements still apply for their chosen area of study ie interviews, auditions etc.
