Program aims

The Undergraduate Certificate of Psychology Fundamentals aims to equip students with the necessary skills to successfully respond to the literacy, critical thinking and e-literacy demands of higher education studies. In addition, this program will provide students with foundation knowledge of psychology and a broad introduction to the practice of psychology. The Certificate provides students with a broad introduction to the academic culture of university studies and the discipline of psychology. The Certificate will provide students with an enhanced understanding and knowledge of foundational issues, principles and strategies needed in order to be successful in the first year undergraduate level of study. The program will appeal to those who want to enhance and develop their broad study skills prior to enrolling in a more specialised degree program, or opting instead to graduate with a new sub-degree qualification.

Program objectives

On successful completion of this program graduates should be able to:

  • Demonstrate effective communication and interpersonal skills and an ability to successfully pursue an undergraduate program of study in either the Faculty of Business, Education, Law and Arts, or the Faculty of Health, Engineering, and Sciences

  • Develop foundation knowledge, skills and competencies in a series of generic first year award-level undergraduate courses

  • Develop academic and professional literacy by showing an understanding of the scope of Psychology and the relationships between its fields

Australian Qualifications Framework

The Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) is a single national, comprehensive system of qualifications offered by higher education institutions (including universities), vocational education and training institutions and secondary schools. Each AQF qualification has a set of descriptors which define the type and complexity of knowledge, skills and application of knowledge and skills that a graduate who has been awarded that qualification has attained, and the typical volume of learning associated with that qualification type.

This program is at AQF Qualification Level 05. Graduates at this level will have specialised knowledge and skills for skilled/paraprofessional work and/or further learning.

Admission requirements

To be eligible for admission, applicants must satisfy the following requirements:

  • Admission into this short program is available to Australian Citizens and Permanent Residents who are aged 17 years or over. USQ assumes your knowledge is equivalent to four semesters at senior high school level (years 11 and 12) with at least a satisfactory achievement in English.

IT requirements

Access to an up-to-date computer is necessary. On-campus students can access appropriately equipped laboratories, but should consider acquisition of their own computer. Students should be able to access a computer with the following . All students should have access to email and the Internet via a computer running the latest versions of Internet web browsers such as Internet Explorer or Firefox. The 精东传媒app has a wireless network for on-campus students' computers. In order to take advantage of this facility and further enhance their on-campus learning environment, students should consider purchasing a notebook/laptop computer with wireless connectivity. Specialist software is required for some courses.

Articulation

Successful completion of this program will enable entry and four courses of credit towards the Diploma of 精东传媒app Studies. It will also provide entry to, and up to two (2) courses credit towards the BPSH Bachelor of Psychology (Honours), the BSCI (Psychology) or BSCI (Psychology Extended).
