Professional accreditation

Graduates of the Bachelor of Aviation (Flight Operations) program will gain professional pilot qualifications issued by the Australian .

There is no external professional accreditation required for graduates of the Bachelor of Aviation (Aviation Management). However, USQ is fully engaged with professional aviation organisations that will help shape and periodically review the standards expected of graduates.

Program aims

The Bachelor of Aviation is a professional program that aims to provide an in-depth understanding of the principles and concepts of the aviation system, its components, aircraft operations, and support and enabling processes. In addition, the program aims to equip graduates with a broad and coherent understanding of human performance issues within the aviation system. Graduates in the Flying Operations major will be provided with the requisite flying skills and knowledge to meet the requirements of the Australian Commercial Pilot Licence and Instrument Rating or international equivalent.

Program objectives are to:

• develop a broad and coherent body of knowledge of the aviation industry with depth in the underlying principles and concepts as a basis for independent lifelong learning

• build initiative and judgement in planning, problem solving and decision making in a professional aviation context

• exercise cognitive and practical skills and the ability to exercise critical thinking and judgement in practical situations

• develop written and interpersonal communication skills appropriate to the complex socio-technical aviation system

• develop and apply a range of professional research skills to and/or theoretical research methodologies appropriate to the aviation context

Australian Qualifications Framework

The Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) is a single national, comprehensive system of qualifications offered by higher education institutions (including universities), vocational education and training institutions and secondary schools. Each AQF qualification has a set of descriptors which define the type and complexity of knowledge, skills and application of knowledge and skills that a graduate who has been awarded that qualification has attained, and the typical volume of learning associated with that qualification type.

This program is at AQF Qualification Level 07. Graduates at this level will have broad and coherent knowledge and skills for professional work and/or further learning.

Admission requirements

To be eligible for admission, applicants must satisfy the following requirements:

• Have achieved a minimum Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) of 62.7, or equivalent qualification.^

• English Language Proficiency requirements for Category 2.

Applicants are advised to also address the following:

• expectations: English (Units 3 & 4, C) and General Mathematics (Units 3 & 4, C).

Although not an admission requirement to the program, students planning to undertake the Flight Operations Major will have to hold a Class 1 Medical Certificate issued by the , as this is one of the regulatory requirements to hold a Commercial Pilot Licence.

It is highly recommended that students investigate their ability to hold an Aviation Security Identification Card (ASIC) and/or pass all required security checks as some organisations such as airports require employees to satisfy security clearances as a condition of employment. Please note: Students intending to undertake the Flight Operations major will be required to co-enrol with a specified flight training school. .

Flight Operations major

While this is not an admission requirement to the program, students planning to undertake the Flight Operations major will have to hold a Class 1 Medical Certificate issued by the , as this is one of the regulatory requirements to hold a Commercial Pilot Licence. In addition, students in the Flight Operations major are expected to complete recognised pilot aptitude assessment and interview prior to being able to undertake the Flight Operations major. Appropriate advice will be provided to students during their first academic year.

Students completing the Flight Operations major are required to enrol in on-campus mode, except for AVN3103 and AVN3107.

Students enrolling in the Bachelor of Aviation Program prior to 2023 will be required to obtain approval from the Bachelor of Aviation Program Coordinator before enrolling in elective courses where the elective courses are found in the above table in the column marked 鈥淪tudents enrolled pre-2023 鈥榚quivalent鈥� courses.鈥�.

It is recommended that students enrolled in the Aviation Management Major commencing in 2023 should discuss their plans to enrol in the minor or student selective courses with the Program Director to enhance employability outcomes..

Exit points

Students not wishing to complete the Bachelor of Aviation may be permitted to exit with the Associate Degree of Aviation (ADAV).

Students may exit with the Associate Degree of Aviation (ADAV) if they have completed 16 first and second year courses as follows:

• 8 core courses

• 8 courses from the Aviation Management major or the Flight Operations major.

Credit

Candidates for admission to the Bachelor of Aviation may be eligible for up to 16 units of credit on the basis of successful completion of relevant, equivalent undergraduate study from a recognised university or institution offering equivalent study.

For the applicable VET registered diplomas (or equivalent), the 精东传媒app will grant eight units of block credit for the second year of the Bachelor of Aviation (Flight Operations major):

The applicable VET registered diplomas are:

• AVI50222 鈥� Diploma in Aviation (Commercial Pilot Licence 鈥� Aeroplane)# (previously AVI50219)

• AVI50319 鈥� Diploma in Aviation (Commercial Pilot Licence 鈥� Helicopter)#

Applicants with Military and/or International equivalents to these qualifications will be considered on an individual basis.

From 1 January 2017, the Federal Government replaced the VET FEE-HELP Scheme with the VET Student Loans scheme. The Diploma of Aviation - required for Bachelor of Aviation (Flight Operations major) - offered by qualified Flight Schools is recognised for the new scheme. A VET Student loans from the Government can provide the latest information. If needed please or discuss directly with your proposed aviation registered training organisation (Flight School).

Credit approved in this program will not automatically apply to other programs offered by USQ.

Claims for credit for previous study should be submitted prior to or at the time of enrolment. Each claim will be assessed on individual merit in line with USQ policy.

Note: Where credit is granted, maximum and minimum duration will be adjusted in the same proportion as credit.

Recommended enrolment patterns

Given the program structure information, students should plan their enrolment making sure that they have fulfilled all core, major and elective requirements. Enrolment requirements must be satisfied before enrolling in a course.

As a guide, full-time students should plan to undertake 8 courses per year and part-time students, who are in employment, a maximum of 6 courses per year, with a minimum of 4 courses per year. This is exclusive of any semester 3 enrolments.
