  • The Creative Writing major equips you with a comprehensive understanding of creative writing practices, while also introducing you to the concepts, theories, and philosophies that guide professional writers and the writing industry.
  • Explore a variety of forms, genres, and styles of writing, and learn how to develop, write, edit, and proofread your work to meet publishable standards.
  • Gain the ability to think critically about the reasons, contexts, and methods of writing about experiences, landscapes, or people; master both creative and critical writing; and create engaging, professional narratives in both fiction and non-fiction.
  • Become part of a dynamic and active online and on-campus community that will link you with local and national writing networks.

Career outcomes

  • Graduates are prepared for a range of positions within the creative and communications fields, whether as freelancers or within corporate and community sectors such as the arts, business, communications, law, education, and media.
  • Potential careers include roles such as professional writer (in fiction, non-fiction, or poetry), editor, publisher, travel writer, scriptwriter, reviewer, corporate writer, game writer, workshop facilitator/teacher, media professional, digital copywriter, and similar positions.

To study this degree we assume you have sound knowledge in:

  • English (Units 3 & 4, C)

English language requirements

You are required to meet the applicable English language requirements and this degree requires a minimum of IELTS 6.0 with a minimum 5.5 in each subscore. UniSQ also accepts other English language proficiency tests.

Recognition of prior learning or work experience

You may be eligible for recognition of prior learning if you have previously studied or have relevant work experience. This will help to reduce the number of courses that you need to study to finish your program.
