Professional accreditation

As a graduate, you are prepared to support the learning of children from birth to eight years of age, which means you are eligible to apply for teacher registration through the . To be eligible for registration in Queensland, both domestic and international students are required to attend the majority of placements in settings within Australia.  

In addition to completing all requirements for the degree, students need to pass the Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education (LANTITE) prior to graduation. It's recommended that students pass the LANTITE before the successful completion of 16 courses. Please register for the LANTITE test through the (ACER) website.

This program is approved with the (ACECQA) and the (QCT).

  • Subject pre-requisites: English (Units 3 & 4, C); General Maths, Mathematical Methods, or Specialist Maths (Units 3 & 4, C), or equivalent. 

Note: You must be able to meet the physical and other professional requirements of professional experience placements within this degree.

English language requirements

To meet the English language requirements for this degree, we accept the combined level and duration of study specified below, or the minimum English language proficiency scores from one of the following tests. Your test must be completed within two years of applying to UniSQ.

(Diploma level or higher)
 3+ years full-time tertiary study in a country from the Accepted English-speaking countries list.
IELTS (Academic)  Minimum overall score of 7.5, with a minimum of 8.0 in speaking and listening, and a minimum of 7.0 in reading and writing. 
International Second Language Proficiency Ratings (ISLPR) A rating of at least 4 in each of the skill areas of listening, speaking, reading and writing. Please note that the assessment must be completed at an approved testing site.
Professional English Assessment for Teachers (PEAT) Assessment of A in all four areas of listening, speaking, reading and writing.

If you have a current Queensland College of Teachers (QCT) provisional or full registration you automatically meet the English language requirements for this degree.

Teacher registration is the responsibility of jurisdictional authorities and the specifications for English Language requirements are set out under the .

Recognition of prior learning or work experience

You may be eligible for recognition of prior learning if you have previously studied or have relevant work experience. This will help to reduce the number of courses that you need to study to finish your program.

What is a Bachelor of Early Childhood Education?

A Bachelor of Early Childhood Education (also known as a Bachelor of Education Early Childhood) is an education and teaching degree that equips graduates with the qualification to deliver education and care to children preschool age and under (e.g. preschool, kindergarten, long day care, family day care or out of school hours care).

What are the entry requirements?

To enter the Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood) at UniSQ, you’ll need to meet a minimum ATAR, pre-requisites and assumed knowledge. ‘Assumed knowledge’ is the term we use to explain the minimum level of knowledge we presume you have in some subjects before you start your degree. 

Before you start your prac placements, you’ll require a valid Blue Card or Exemption Card for working with children, along with other placement requirements.

How long does a Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood) take?

Generally, a Bachelor of Early Childhood Education takes four years of full-time study to complete. If you have a previous early childhood qualification from TAFE or other institution, you may be eligible to receive credit for some courses and graduate sooner.
