  • UniSQ’s Bachelor of Education (Primary) is designed to prepare graduates who are confident to teach primary school students in a variety of contexts across all learning areas.

Develop invaluable transferable skills including collaboration, organisation, adaptability, communication, empathy and patience.
  • Complete your professional experience in P-6 classrooms at a variety of locations, including rural, remote and international placements. Your placements may include a mixture of mainstream classroom settings as well as opportunities to engage in alternative educational settings. These experiences will help to make you a well-rounded and highly employable graduate.

Professional accreditation

  • As a graduate, you are eligible to apply for registration as a teacher through the . For registration in Queensland, both domestic and international students are required to attend the majority of placements in settings within Australia.      
  • In addition to completing all requirements for the degree, students need to pass the Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education (LANTITE) prior to graduation. It's recommended that you pass the LANTITE before the successful completion of 16 courses. Please register for the LANTITE test through the (ACER) website.

Career outcomes

  • As a registered teacher, you will have the skills and experience required to teach students in P-6 classrooms. You will have many opportunities to work in metropolitan, rural and remote and international schools.
  • Teaching offers a lot of flexibility and diversity, with graduates gaining employment in settings such as hospital schools and international schools.
  • Teaching skills are also in demand in other areas, including roles with human services, community-based government organisations and recreation and tourism industries.

Entry requirements

  • Subject pre-requisites: English (Units 3 & 4, C); General Maths, Mathematical Methods, or Specialist Maths (Units 3 & 4, C); or equivalent. 

Note: You must be able to meet the physical and other professional requirements of professional experience placements in Australian schools within this degree.

English language requirements

To meet the English language requirements for this degree, we accept the combined level and duration of study specified below, or the minimum English language proficiency scores from one of the following tests. Your test must be completed within two years of applying to UniSQ.

(Diploma level or higher)
 3+ years full-time tertiary study in a country from the Accepted English-speaking countries list.
IELTS (Academic)  Minimum overall score of 7.5, with a minimum of 8.0 in speaking and listening, and a minimum of 7.0 in reading and writing. 
International Second Language Proficiency Ratings (ISLPR) A rating of at least 4 in each of the skill areas of listening, speaking, reading and writing. Please note that the assessment must be completed at an approved testing site.
Professional English Assessment for Teachers (PEAT) Assessment of A in all four areas of listening, speaking, reading and writing.

If you have a current Queensland College of Teachers (QCT) provisional or full registration you automatically meet the English language requirements for this degree.

Recognition of prior learning or work experience

If you have previously studied in your home country, you may be eligible for recognition of prior learning to reduce the number of courses that you need to study to finish your program.
