Melanie

Upskilling with the help of UniSQ

Melanie recently returned to the vocational education industry as a learning and development coordinator at TAFE Queensland. After her undergraduate degree, Melanie took a break from studying while raising a family. This new role inspired her to return to university to update her skills.

‘Throughout my education I discovered the importance of lifelong learning and keeping up to date with what’s new in industry. At UniSQ there are many lecturers who are experts in their fields and I wanted to learn from them.’

Although high school wasn’t Melanie’s strong point, she thrived when she went into tertiary education attributing it to her different learning style. She wants to give young people that same chance to succeed.  She decided to pursue a Master of Education in Career Development, a topic which she is incredibly passionate about.

‘I enjoy helping students gain skills to make themselves more employable and strive for that next step. I want to use what I’ve learned in my degree to guide them in their future careers.’

Melanie looks forward to going on to further study through a PhD so she can enter academia and continue to teach.
