Pre-requisite: Students must have successfully completed HMT4005 or BCA8002 or HMT4007 or be enrolled in DPHD program
Other requisites
It is recommended students successfully complete a minimum of four Masters level courses before enrolling in MAR8006. Student enrolment is subject to the agreement of an appropriate supervisor.
Students will require access to e-mail and have internet access to UConnect for this course.
Rationale
This course has been designed to allow postgraduate students to build on previously acquired knowledge to develop specific areas of research. Students will use this course to build on earlier courses, to undertake independent learning under the guidance of a supervisor.
Synopsis
This course enables students to undertake research in an area of specialist study through independent learning. The course builds on theory and practice taught previously in students' chosen arts major. To complete this course students will be required to devise a special research project on a central theme or topic area. Students will demonstrate advanced scholarship through the submission of professional reports or an extended research essay completed in 2 parts. The total word count of the assessment will be 5,000 words.
Objectives
On successful completion of this course students should have:
- knowledge of the major themes and theoretical issues in their chosen area of study;
- an ability to comprehend specialist literature and to synthesise this in rational arguments;
- demonstrated academic and professional literacy at an advanced level by carrying out appropriate and relevant research independently;
- advanced level written communication skills appropriate to the discipline and profession.
