Pre-requisite: Students must be enrolled in one of the following Programs: BSCH (Psychology major 12302) or BPSH or MSCR (Psychology Research)

Other requisites

BPSH students must have completed the first 3 years with a GPA of 5.0 across levels 1 to 3 psychology courses.

Rationale

Psychological assessment is a basic skill for all areas of applied psychology. Using workshops and case studies, students will learn about the development of testing skills and the application of testing principles in clinical settings.

Synopsis

This course provides training in the development of skills necessary for conducting psychological assessment including interview skills, administration and scoring, interpretation, and professional report writing. Assessment strategies, including the use of standardised psychological test instruments will be identified, discussed, and practiced. There is a focus on cultural considerations when conducting psychological assessments within this course.

This course contains a mandatory residential school for both external and on-campus students.

Objectives

On completion of this course students should be able to:

  1. Apply a range of interpersonal and communication skills when interviewing clients
  2. Explain the cultural considerations that are associated with psychological testing
  3. Conduct an intake assessment and administer a Mental Status Exam
  4. Score and interpret a widely used standardised psychological test
  5. Effectively communicate to a professional audience via a written report.

Important assessment information

  1. Attendance requirements:
    Attendance at the two, two-day residential schools is mandatory. The location of the all workshops/residential schools for BSCH students will be held at either Ipswich or Toowoomba campus if enrolled as an on-campus student, at the Ipswich campus for BPSH students, and Toowoomba only for external students. It is the students' responsibility to attend and participate appropriately in all activities (such 精东传媒app Desk and residential schools) scheduled for them, and to study all material provided to them or required to be accessed by them to maximise their chance of meeting the objectives of the course and to be informed of course-related activities and administration.

  2. Requirements for students to complete each assessment item satisfactorily:
    To complete the residential school attendance and participation satisfactorily students must achieve 100% for the item. To complete each of the remaining assessment items satisfactorily, students must obtain at least 50% of the total marks available for each item.

  3. Penalties for late submission of required work:
    Students should refer to the Assessment Procedure (point 4.2.4)

  4. Requirements for student to be awarded a passing grade in the course:
    To be assured of receiving a passing grade a student must achieve 100% of the marks for the residential school attendance and participation and at least 50% of the total weighted marks available for the course. Due to accreditation requirements the grade of Conceded Pass cannot be applied in compulsory psychology courses.

  5. Method used to combine assessment results to attain final grade:
    The final grades for students will be assigned on the basis of the aggregate of the weighted marks (or grades) obtained for each of the summative assessment items in the course.

  6. Examination information:
    There is no examination in this course.

  7. Examination period when Deferred/Supplementary examinations will be held:
    There will be no Deferred or Supplementary examinations in this course.
