Rationale

Students must have a range of vocational skills to enable them to actively contribute within a wine related workplace. This practical course enables students to develop wine industry relevant skills, pertinent to their major, with industry professionals.

Synopsis

This course is delivered as a series of practical workshops led by industry professionals, allowing students to acquire career relevant skills in their chosen major. Topics addressed include hands-on vineyard management, wine production techniques, and business management skills.

This course comprises a number of small residential schools throughout the year held at Queensland College of Wine Tourism, Stanthorpe Queensland.

This course contains a mandatory residential school.

Objectives

On completion of this course students should be able to:

  1. apply appropriate practical skills and knowledge in a professional workplace environment;
  2. use written and verbal workplace communication skills to transfer knowledge to a range of audiences;
  3. work effectively, be responsible for their own learning, and make appropriate decisions in matters pertaining to their own safety and wellbeing;
  4. evaluate and apply a range of possible solutions to a variety of industry based scenarios.

Important assessment information

  1. Attendance requirements:
    There are no weekly attendance requirements for this course. However, it is the students’ responsibility to study all material provided to them or required to be accessed by them to maximise their chance of meeting the objectives of the course and to be informed of course-related activities and administration This course involves mandatory residential schools of varying length delivered at the Queensland College of Wine Tourism, Stanthorpe Queensland.

    Students must complete the requirements of the Student Code of Conduct for Vineyard and Winery Work for this course and any other host requirements where required.

  2. Requirements for students to complete each assessment item satisfactorily:
    To complete the Residential School Attendance item satisfactorily students must attend at least 80% of the mandatory residential school. To complete each of the other assessment items satisfactorily, students must obtain at least 50% of the marks available for each assessment item.

  3. Penalties for late submission of required work:
    Students should refer to the Assessment Procedure (point 4.2.4)

  4. Requirements for student to be awarded a passing grade in the course:
    To be assured of receiving a passing grade a student must obtain at least 50% of the total weighted marks available for the course.

    Requirements for student to be awarded a passing grade in the course: To be assured of a pass in this course students must submit each assessment item, achieve an aggregate of 50% of the marks available for the summative assessments and satisfactorily complete all residential school components.

  5. Method used to combine assessment results to attain final grade:
    As P is the only passing grade available for this course, all students who are qualified for a passing grade will be given a grade of P. Other students will be given either a Failing grade or an Incomplete grade.
