Overview
This course builds on students’ learning from second year courses in Physiology and Pharmacology and provides a comprehensive exploration of the changes in the functioning of the human body in disease states as well as the treatments that are used to cure disease or limit disease impact.
BIO3102 Human Pathophysiology provides a detailed exploration of the aetiology (causes), progression and treatment of some of the most common diseases affecting today's society. In addition to describing contemporary approaches to diagnosing and treating disease, the course will also explore emerging diagnostic technologies and treatments.
Course learning outcomes
On completion of this course students will be able to:
- Explain the development of disease states such as cancer (All assessments);
- Describe the aetiology of pain and changes in fluid balance in diseases (All assessments);
- Describe the mechanisms of action, therapeutic uses and major adverse effects for drugs used in the treatment of common disease states.
