Overview
Paramedic Placement 4 provides students with their fourth and final practical placement opportunity. This placement is the opportunity to hone the application of their skill and knowledge under supervision of a qualified paramedic. This course provides a capstone experience in the paramedic program.
This course is a competency-based course, and assessment items must be successfully completed to pass the course. These competency items form part of the USQ accreditation agreement with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
During the fourth placement of five weeks, students will be expected to perform as an integral third crew member and significantly contribute to clinical decision making and treatment decisions as well as actively participate in the patient care. Students will be expected to undertake many tasks independently while demonstrating a thorough knowledge and understanding of ambulance equipment, procedures, processes and documentation.
Course learning outcomes
On successful completion of this course students will be able to:
- Evaluate own performance in a clinical situation with regard to skills and attitude
- Demonstrate high level effective communication skills and the ability to professionally interact with people from diverse age groups and cultures
- Demonstrate a high level of participation in decision making regarding the assessment and management appropriate to a final semester student
- Demonstrate the ability to manage individuals presenting with a broad range of medical problems and conditions
- Apply evidence-based practice to manage individuals in an ambulance environment or pre-hospital setting
- Demonstrate ethical, professional, and safe behaviour in a clinical environment, adhering to applicable National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards, AHPRA Professional Standards [or capabilities] and industry requirements.
