Overview
This course introduces Master of Strength and Conditioning students to role that strength and conditioning coaches play in preventing and rehabilitating sports injuries. This course builds on the prior undergraduate knowledge the students have of anatomy and physiology, providing them with in-depth industry-relevant theoretical and practical knowledge across a number of key areas including identification and management of internal and external factors that contribute to sporting injuries, the anatomical, physiological and pathological characteristics of common sport injuries, the healing characteristics of various human tissues, and the design and implementation of injury prevention and rehabilitation programs. The course will also provide the students with knowledge of the psychological and sociological issues related to injured athletes. The course emphasises the application of the course material via integrated-learning opportunities and practical skill development, so that students are able to apply their knowledge and skills in subsequent courses and job-related experiences.
This course examines the role of the strength and conditioning professional in the injury prevention and rehabilitation process for athletes of all levels and sports. The course studies a number of key areas including the internal and external factors that contribute to sporting injuries, how these factors are managed from a strength and conditioning perspective, and the anatomical, physiological and pathological characteristics of common sporting injuries including the healing characteristics of these injuries and associated human tissues. The course will also explore how to assess, design and implement injury prevention and rehabilitation strength and conditioning programs for a variety of athletic populations based on current best industry practices. Finally, the course will investigate the psychological and sociological issues that injured athletes face throughout the rehabilitation process. The latest research and technologies will be examined via a Problem-Based Learning approach supplemented with key learning extension activities, including online discussion, collaboration, and peer learning.
This course contains a mandatory residential school.
