Synopsis

This course aims to provide the student with an understanding of the challenges associated with childbearing such as infertility, chronic illness, substance abuse, obesity, trauma and hypertension in pregnancy. Content also addresses complications related to birth such as breech, shoulder dystocia, maternal collapse, haemorrhage and malpresentation. Cultural aspects that can have an impact of childbearing, birth and the postnatal period will also be addressed.

This course contains a mandatory residential school.
