The design and construction of roads impacts on almost all sectors of society. The course introduces students to the concept of road location with particular emphasis on the design of the geometric elements of the road including horizontal and vertical alignments. The design will be examined from the context of rural road design, however some application to urban roads will be examined. Theory will be supported using computer aided design and modelling packages.
