Overview

Cadastral surveying refers to those surveys involving the description of land boundaries and requires a thorough knowledge of the current cadastral system for the registration of land. The majority of survey graduates will have some involvement with cadastral surveying during their career, if not for the whole of their careers, and need to be introduced to the underlying principles. Knowledge of cadastral surveying, cadastral systems and boundary reinstatement is essential for land surveyors, this course provides the foundation knowledge for land surveyors to be eligible for registration within state jurisdictions.

In this course students will be introduced to the New South Wales statutory and common law relating to cadastral surveying, cadastral surveyors and land registration as per State legislation. Students will be able to outline the historical and current survey requirements for Queensland and select appropriate field measuring techniques, field checking procedures, marking requirements and drafting standards for cadastral surveys. A significant component of the course will be develop skills to solve and perform cadastral boundary reinstatement calculations for both rural and urban surveys and to categorise, apply and justify reinstatement principles for cadastral surveys.
