Professional accreditation

The Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) is fully accredited by the as a four-year sequence of study. Graduates are eligible to apply for provisional registration as a Psychologist with the . Those who complete the four-year Honours program may also be eligible to go on to complete further studies at the Masters level with the aim of gaining specialist registration (e.g., clinical psychologist).

Graduates are also eligible to apply to the Australian Psychological Society for Associate Membership.

Program aims

The program aims to produce graduates who possess the qualities outlined in the UniSQ Graduate Attributes, who have developed a strong knowledge base in the discipline, who are proficient researchers, who possess the professional competencies expected of graduates by the Psychology Board of Australia and the , and who are able to actively contribute to the welfare of the community at large.

Program objectives

Upon successful completion of the Bachelor of Psychology (Honours), students should be able to:

• systematically apply advanced knowledge and concepts to the major fields in contemporary psychology.

• use specific methodology to independently plan, implement, analyse, interpret and evaluate research findings and coherently communicate findings to a wide audience.

• apply psychological knowledge, and skills to explain, predict and influence human behaviour to meet individual, professional and societal needs.

• apply professional skills in assessment, counselling, evaluation and intervention with a high degree of proficiency to enhance the psychological wellbeing of clients.

• articulate and apply Indigenous cultural competence knowledge and skills in diverse situations.

• demonstrate integrity, ethical conduct, accountability, respect and awareness of professional practices and cultural norms with a range of diverse clients.

Australian Qualifications Framework

The Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) is a single national, comprehensive system of qualifications offered by higher education institutions (including universities), vocational education and training institutions and secondary schools. Each AQF qualification has a set of descriptors which define the type and complexity of knowledge, skills and application of knowledge and skills that a graduate who has been awarded that qualification has attained, and the typical volume of learning associated with that qualification type.

This program is at AQF Qualification Level 08. Graduates at this level will have advanced knowledge and skills for professional or highly skilled work and/or further learning.

Admission requirements

To be eligible for admission, applicants must satisfy the following requirements:

• Have achieved a minimum Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) of 68.25, or equivalent qualification.^

• English Language Proficiency requirements for Category 2.

Applicants are advised to also address the following:

Requirements for professional experience placements

Practicum experience is an integral component of two recommended electives in the program. Students taking these courses will undertake 100 hours of placement in each course.

Commonwealth supported place

A Commonwealth supported place is where the Australian Government makes a contribution towards the cost of a students' higher education and students pay a , which varies depending on the courses undertaken. Students are able to calculate the fees for a particular course via the .

Domestic full fee paying place

Program structure

The Program entails four years of full-time study, during which time the student will complete 32 units, comprising 25 compulsory psychology courses (27 units), and a statistics course (1 unit) and 4 elective courses (4 units).

Requirements to complete the program

Admission into the 4th year of the program is contingent upon students having completed the first 3 years of the Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) program as well as maintaining an average Grade Point Average (GPA) of 5.0 in their psychology courses across levels 1 to 3. For students who fail to meet these requirements please refer to the Exit Point section. To qualify for the award of Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) a candidate must complete or be exempted from courses with a total value of at least 32 units within 10 years of first admission to the program.

Students may take any single UniSQ elective course that is of interest to their future career. Exit points

Those students who fail to maintain an average GPA of 5.0 in their psychology courses across levels 1 to 3 will not be permitted to enrol in the fourth year of the program and will be exited from the degree. Those students will graduate with a BSCIorBSCP Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Science (Psychology) degree with a major in Psychology.
